Chesterfield is in Derbyshire, and the run down from Sheffield is the A61 through Dronfield. That is worth mentioning because Dronfield, Unstone and Coal Aston sit in between and nobody living there is ever quite sure which town they are supposed to belong to. For the record they are Derbyshire, and I cover them either way, which is the only part of it that affects you.
In the town, Brampton along Chatsworth Road, Whittington Moor and Stonegravels are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, and the front doors are timber far more often than people expect before they look. Hasland, Birdholme, Holme Hall and Loundsley Green are post-war estates where uPVC replacement doors are close to universal. Staveley, Barrow Hill and Brimington grew up around the works and the railway and carry the terraced housing to match.
Head west and the ground climbs toward the Peak District. Holymoorside, Cutthorpe and the properties out that way are gritstone, with thick walls and substantial timber doors, and there is a practical consequence to that. Lock sizes and cylinder lengths that are standard everywhere else are frequently wrong out there, and a cylinder that sticks out proud of the handle because somebody guessed is easier to attack than the one it replaced. It is worth measuring before buying anything.
Doors and locks around Chesterfield
The terraces through Brampton, Whittington Moor and Stonegravels are mostly timber doors running a night latch over a mortice, and it is the mortice that decides whether your insurer is satisfied. The post-war estates at Holme Hall, Loundsley Green and Birdholme are uPVC on multipoint mechanisms. West toward Holymoorside and Cutthorpe the doors are thicker and older, and cylinder length has to be measured rather than assumed.
